Disposable leafs are specially shaped pads that are sometimes also called ‘shields’, ‘guards’ or 'shaped pads for men'.
Click on the purple tabs below for information about disposable leafs.
These are rather like a small disposable pad designed specifically for men.
The absorbent area is slightly elasticated to give a cupping shape to hold both penis and testicles.
Leafs are secured in place by an adhesive strip on the back which sticks onto your underwear and need to be held in place by close-fitting underwear.
They are usually available in a few absorbencies although you might find that as the absorbency increases so does the thickness and sometimes the size and bulk of the leaf.
They are the best performing pad design for men with light bladder leakage and are more popular than small disposable pads 1
However, there is variability in the performance between different makes of leaf and some have been found to be much better than others 1
It is hard to say if a leaf will work well for you without trying it. However, it is likely to work if you:
-have fairly substantial light incontinence
-need a pad that will be reliable when out of the home
-are active and need a pad that will be reliable during a range of activities
However they are one of the more expensive of the disposable options so if price is a consideration for you, you might want to mix and match your products.
‘Try before you buy’ - some manufacturers of disposable products will send you free samples in the post for you to try. Look out for advertisements in magazines and on the internet.

Leafs are usually only available in a few absorbencies. You will find that it is best to start with the lowest absorbency, if necessary you can then increase the absorbency until the leaf is right for you.
Leafs may be bulkier and larger as the absorbency increases so you want to find the right balance of absorbency and discretion that works for you.

Men generally find leafs easy to manage – although the sticky strips on the back can be tricky when applying and removing from pants.
If you can stand, even for short periods then small leafs can be quite easily put in place by a helper.
Guides to fitting leafs may be available on the manufacturer’s website.
As the penis and scrotum are in a single product, men have reported discomfort from urine in contact with scrotal skin.
Some men find that they are allergic to some of the materials that disposable leafs are made of and find that they have to stop using them.
They are expensive compared with standard small disposable pads.
