There is a wide range of products designed to help manage bladder and bowel symptoms. Although there are many different individual products, they mostly fall into a small number of design categories to either contain incontinence, help with toiletting or manage urinary retention.

Within most product groups there are a number of sub-groups. Some products are suitable only for women and others only for men, and others are unisex. For example, absorbent pads are divided into those suitable for light leakage and those suitable for moderate to heavy leakage. Although many pads are unisex there are some designed specifically for men and others more suitable for women.
Absorbent pads are the most commonly used type of product for containing leakage, especially for women INVALID REFERENCE INDEX : 1 although female devices exist they are less widely used.
